ZEPHYR is one of the very few public spaces for photography and related media in Germany.Peter Gowland (April 3, 1916 – March 17, 2010) was a famous American glamour photographer and actor. He was known for designing and building his own studio equipment and was active professionally for six decades. Gowland shot more than 1,000 magazine covers, mostly glamour shots of female models but also portraits of celebrities including Rock Hudson and Robert Wagner. His covers included Rolling Stone, Playboy, and Modern Photography. He invented elite cameras and equipment that he used to shoot pinups and magazine covers. In the late 1950s, Gowland also invented the twin-lens Gowlandflex camera, which used 4-by-5 inch film for high-quality pictures

Das Fotobuch lohnt sich.Ich hatte es mir gebraucht gekauft und in einer sehr guten Qualität bekommen.Das Buch selbst ist ebenfalls lohnenswert.Die Fotos haben ihren eigenen, wohl nicht mehr reproduzierebaren, charme.Sie kommen aus einer anderen Zeit.Diese art der Fotografie ist unwiderbringlich.Da helfen auch keine modernen NIK Filter.Mir gefällt diese Art der der Fotogarfie sehr gut.Ich würde mir das Buch wieder kaufen.
Peter Gowland war mir bisher bekannt als Verfasser von Büchern für Hobbyfotografen wieetwa "Secrets of Photographing Women". Eine eigene Monographie mit Werken von Gowlandlag bisher nicht vor.Diese Lücke hat der Kehrer Verlag jetzt geschlossen. Parallel zur Ausstellung in Mannheim(bis Januar 2017), ist Peter Gowland's Girls als Begleitkatalog erschienen. In dem Buch werdenhauptsächlich Fotos aus den Fünfzigern bis in die Sechziger Jahre gezeigt. Klassische Pin-upFotografie im Stil der Zeit, wie man es von Bunny Yeager, Bernard of Hollywood oder aus denfrühen Playboys her kennt. Nie anstößig oder obszön, immer sehr ästhetisch - der AmericanWay of Life für die Mittelschicht.Mir gefallen besonders gut die farbigen Aufnahmen in Kodakchrome, sehr stimmungsvoll undnostalgisch. Neben den heute unbekannten Modellen, werden auch Porträts von Stars undSternchen aus Hollywood gezeigt. Jayne Mansfield, Julie Newmar, Joan Collins und Akteurewie Rock Hudson und Robert Wagner.Die Bildzeitung hatte kürzlich Gowlands Porträts zu Kunst erklärt und eine Woche lang denTitel mit einem "Pin-up Girl des Tages" von ihm versehen. Ob Kunst oder nicht Kunst, schönanzusehen ist die Publikation auf jeden Fall.
